Many solicitors have been shocked by the predictions of a 30% reduction in the number of law firms as a result of the competition which the Legal Services Act will unleash on the commodity end of the legal market. However, for the more enterprising firms the Act offers considerable opportunity to diversify their practices and offer a more comprehensive client service.   This workshop will consider the role which financial advice can play in complementing and enhancing solicitors’ legal advice.

Tish Hannifan

is a barrister, freelance lecturer and consultant with the professional training company Legal Support Services (S.E) Ltd. She lectures extensively on all aspects of advising the older client to solicitors, accountants and financial advisers throughout the United Kingdom.

She is founder, member and board director of Solicitors for the Elderly and Chair of the Kent branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (S.T.E.P). Tish is also actively involved in working with the financial services sector to ensure best practice in advising the older client. She is a director of SVARfair, a financial services consultancy company specialising in the older client market.

In 2008 SVARfair worked in collaboration with the Financial Services Skills Council to launch the Later Life Adviser Accreditation. Tish is joint chair of the Society of Later life Advisers (SOLLA),  launched in 2009 to support and promote Later Life Advisers and the provision of specialist advice to those at and in retirement. Tish is the author of ‘Equity Release Made Easy’ published by Age Concern.
